INCIDENTS IN AREA (14 Jan. 2011)

Edgewood and Swissvale Police have informed the RSCA of 3 recent actual and attempted robberies in the Regent Square area. City of Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg Police have reported 2 similar incidents further from us - one near Barnes and Whitney and another at Brashear near Penn.

The perpetrators, at times acting in pairs and sometimes using a gun, held up walkers mostly between 8 and 11 PM. Described as young black males, 5-7” and 5’-10”, both of thin build and wearing hoodies, the actors have been driven away in a white vehicle.

RSCA Board members have contacted representatives from our four municipalities on this issue. We are happy to report that the four police departments are now in contact with each other and increasing their patrols and investigations into this problem. In fact, one arrest has been made and two other suspects have been formulated.

All four police departments recommend that area residents:

  • be aware of their surroundings when walking around the neighborhood,
  • do not aggressively engage assailants,
  • report anything that seems strange or suspicious, and
  • ALWAYS contact 9-1-1 if there’s been an incident.

In the mean time, the RSCA will keep you informed to the best of the abilities of its all-volunteer Board. Look for future information, our email blasts, on how you can get public safety alerts directly from the four municipalities.

If you would like to receive email updates of events and happenings in Regent Square, click "here" to sign up for email blasts and please encourage neighbors to do so as well.

Finally, thank you to those residents who brought this issue to our attention.

RSCA's Mission:
The Regent Square Civic Association (RSCA) serves all the residents, businesses, and property owners in Regent Square, a neighborhood comprised of sections of four municipalities: Edgewood, Pittsburgh, Swissvale and Wilkinsburg.
It is our goal to maintain a sense of community and continuously improve the quality of life in our neighborhood. The RSCA acts as a liaison to government agencies, organizes community events, initiates neighborhood improvements, collaborates with other community organizations, disseminates information to the community, and operates as an advocate on community-wide issues.
The RSCA is a not-for-profit volunteer-led community association with a membership-elected board of directors. We aim to increase community membership and participation in the RSCA, as these are integral ways for individuals and businesses to make a positive impact on their community.
