Get Go station

This message is being sent to you by the Regent Square Civic Association, a not-for-profit 501(c)(4), all-volunteer community organization serving Regent Square's diverse residential and business community.

This coming Thursday, Giant Eagle will reopen the former Sunoco station at Braddock and Hutchinson as a GetGo with 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. hours of operation, seven days a week. Strada Architecture was hired to draw up the plans for its re-design. Pat Avolio, Giant Eagle’s Director of Real Estate Development and Construction, told the RSCA that the station was only to be “rebranded and reimaged” for now but that once it has been open for a while, the company will re-assess the site and decide whether and how to reconfigure it. For the time being, GetGo will limit its retail space to what the Sunoco used, leaving the garage bays unused. It will continue to sell the same items as the Sunoco sold though Giant Eagle Corp. is looking at also selling propane and lottery tickets given the proper approvals. Sales will take place via a pass-through window. There will be no public restrooms. The number of pumps will remain the same. In October 2011, the RSCA convened a group of reside
nts for a design workshop to develop a vision and wish list for the site. On January 18, 2012 workshop participants met with representatives of Giant Eagle Corp. to share overall community concerns and the resulting workshop report. Residents can see the meeting minutes and report on the RSCA’s Neighborhood Development page at www.regentsquare-RSCA.org. In addition, the RSCA has asked Edgewood Council for a meeting to share the workshop’s vision document and make sure that the community’s input is considered in Giant Eagle’s future plans for the site. To date, Edgewood has not scheduled the meeting. The RSCA has been making every effort to communicate the latest information on the site’s redevelopment to the community via its bi-monthly newsletter, this email list and a Sunoco-GetGo-specific email list. Residents can send an email to contact@regentsquare-RSCA.org to get on this list. Residents who want to express their questions and opinions to their elected officials and have them become part of the public record should attend Edgewood Borough Council meetings which take place on the first and third Mondays of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough Building.
