On 12-Jul-2003 at 10:00AM folks gathered at the Richmond-Sanders lot to celebrate two things - the completion of the lot landscaping and the start of a new community mural at the corner of South Braddock and Hutchinson. The Civic Association Beautification Committee chair, Colleen Derda, worked with local citizens and government officials to secure funds for the lot reseeding as well as have benches and stonework installed in a corner of the lot. The Braddock Avenue committee worked with a local group of artists to secure a grant for an original artwork in the community.

Folks arrive early to set-up as well as watch. |
But the crowd quickly grew. Some young residents even drove over in the family car! |

Colleen Derda (center) checks for any last minute things to be done. Dick Wilford (top right), CitiParks supervisor for Rick Park, looks out over the field as does RSCA Board Member Jane Glidden (bottom left). |
Almost ready to start...everyone checks their notes! |
|
RSCA Board Member Terri Rosen welcomes everyone and thanks all of those who made the reseeding, bench installation, and landscaping possble. |
The large crowd listened... |
|
The Landscape Architect, Luke Desmone, who designed the benches and stonework was recognized and spoke. |
State Representative Dan Frankel, who helped secure funding for the work, was on-hand to formally open the field. He had some help with the ribbon! |
|
The design by Kristen Williams for the mural at Hutchinson & Braddock was shown. |
The mural will show Regent Square from the air featuring native and migratory bird species in the foreground. A very unique and special work of community art! |
|
Thanks to Braddock Avenue Express (convenience store) and Sweetie Sweetie (bakery) for providing treats that everyone enjoyed after! |
The lush green field is a beautiful sight to behold! Quite a change from the uneven surface and frequent muddy puddles of last year! |
|
And the wonderfully designed corner is a great place to rest - but as you can see, kids don't sit still there very long! ("Where did he go...?") |
Everyone gets to enjoy the great new Richmond-Sanders lot - brought to you by neighbors, friends, and government working together through your Regent Square Civic Associations! |
